Privacy Policy

Not Buk is a notebook app for iPhone and iPad. It was built on a simple idea: your notebook is yours. This policy explains what information the app handles and why. The short version — everything stays on your device, and we collect nothing.

Your notebooks stay on your device

Everything you create in Not Buk — notebooks, pages, typed text, drawings, photos, voice recordings, and transcripts — is stored locally on your iPhone or iPad. Not Buk has no server backend, no user database, and no cloud storage of its own. We cannot see, access, or recover your content. Your data may be included in the device backups you control (such as iCloud or computer backups), which are governed by Apple's privacy practices, not ours.

What we collect

Nothing. Not Buk contains no analytics, no crash-reporting SDKs from third parties, no advertising, and no trackers. We do not collect, transmit, sell, rent, or share any personal information — because the app never sends your data anywhere in the first place.

Permissions the app asks for, and why

• Microphone. Used only to record voice notes when you tap the record button. Recordings are saved as audio files on your device and are never uploaded.
• Speech recognition. Voice notes are transcribed entirely on your device using Apple's on-device speech frameworks. The app is configured to refuse network-based transcription; if on-device recognition is unavailable for your language, transcription simply doesn't happen rather than sending audio over the network. On some devices, iOS may download a language model from Apple to enable on-device transcription — this downloads the model to your device; it does not upload your audio.
• Photo library. Used only when you choose to add a photo to a page, a notebook cover, or a paper background, via Apple's photo picker. The app only receives the specific photos you select, and they are stored with your notebook on your device.
• Face ID / Touch ID. If you lock a notebook, unlocking uses the authentication built into your device (Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode). This is handled entirely by iOS — Not Buk never sees or stores your biometric data.

Sign in with Apple (optional)

You may optionally use Sign in with Apple during onboarding to personalize your notebook library with your name. If you do, the app stores the identifier and first name that Apple provides locally on your device only — nothing is sent to us, because there is no "us" to send it to. You can skip this entirely and simply type a name (or nothing at all); the app works identically either way.

Third parties

Not Buk shares no data with third parties. The only outside services involved are Apple's own system frameworks (such as the photo picker, Sign in with Apple, and on-device speech recognition), which run under Apple's privacy protections on your device.

Children's privacy

Not Buk does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. Because the app has no data collection, no accounts, no ads, and no third-party services, there is no personal information for us to receive from children under 13 (or any other age).

Data deletion

You are in full control of your data. Deleting a notebook removes all of its pages, photos, and voice notes from your device, and deleting the app removes everything Not Buk stored. Since we hold no copy of your data, there is nothing further to request deletion of.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of Not Buk changes how data is handled (for example, if optional iCloud sync is added), this policy will be updated before that version ships, and the date at the top of this page will change.
